Welcome to Minneriya and Sigiriya !

Minneriya is a small town in Sri Lanka that is famous for two things — the great Minneriya lake built by King Mahasen and Minneriya National Park which is a hot spot for safari lovers because of its abundance of elephant.

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka.

Overview

Colombo is the capital city of Sri Lanka, and the country’s largest city in terms of population. Located on the west coast, it is a beautiful city surrounded by white sand beaches and an impressive harbourfront. Colombo is characterised by a series of canals, with the picturesque 160-acre Beira Lake at its centre.

Cosmopolitan Colombo, gateway to the wonder of Sri Lanka, boasts a rich colonial heritage, featuring a melting pot of races, religions and cultures. A city of contrasts, it is both an eclectic mix of shiny hotels and swanky office blocks, neighbouring beautiful red-tiled colonial-era buildings.

One of the most famous landmarks in Colombo is Beira Lake. It is a quiet escape and a great place to relax. One can take a stroll by the lake or try the famous swan boat ride. The main attraction of Beira Lake is a small island located in the center, which is popular among couples.

By early afternoon. leave for Minneriya National Park where you can see herds of wild elephants congregate in ‘The Gathering’ the grand seasonal phenomena which is one of the most awesome wildlife spectacles in the world with over 300 hundred elephants congregating around the shores of Minneriya Tank. This is an opportunity to observe the social dynamics of elephants. The season starts between July to October each year with its peak in the months of August and September.

The second day of the tour brings you to Sigiriya to climb the Rock Fortress. Sigiriya is a fascinating monument which was a stronghold of a 5th century king who murdered his father. The red stone rises 600 feet from the green scrub jungle and it is famous for its frescoes painted within a sheltered rock. Only 19 out of the 500 frescoes painted in the 5th century remains. The Lion Stairway, the Mirror Wall and the Water Gardens are amongst Sigiriya’s other highlights.
