There are many excellent locations for scuba diving in Sri Lanka – particularly along the country’s southern and western coasts. Popular spots in the south include Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa and Weligama, with Beruwela and Bentota in the west, Kalpitiya and Negombo towards the north west, and Trincomalee along the eastern coast. A dive into Sri Lanka’s waters is also an excellent way to learn more about its fascinating and exotic marine life – ranging from sea turtles to whales to manta rays. The best season for scuba diving is typically during the months of November to May, when conditions are ideal. Plenty of facilities and diving gear will also be available at nearly every diving site, with some sites offering training and tips for first-time scuba divers.
